Our client, SOLO Cup, partnered with Disney to run a promotional sweepstakes leading up to the premiere of the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. At Elevate, we identified three objectives for the SOLO sweepstakes experience: capture emails, reinforce the SOLO brand as the original “red cup,” and provide users with a simple path to purchase SOLO products.
The site guided users to enter a sweepstakes for a trip to the movie premiere and to explore Star Wars SOLObration party ideas using SOLO products. To encourage site visitors to purchase SOLO products, users were given a bonus coupon code to use on Amazon after entering the sweepstakes.
As Disney brand creative direction provided oversight for the usage of Star Wars assets, the site needed to speak the language of Star Wars in a way that aligned directly with Solo: A Star Wars Story marketing all while providing a funnel towards email collection for SOLO. We put our best foot forward with adventurous, large typography and playful usage of SOLO cup and Star Wars assets in the same space.
The other door to the website was through the content and video area. After submitting their information, users would be funneled to family-friendly Star Wars craft projects using SOLO products. These articles also funneled users towards the sweepstakes experience if they had not yet submitted.
Animated glowing light and zero-gravity floating effects gave the site presentation a unique look and feel. Playful easter eggs like SOLO cups firing lasers were moments of discoverable delight within the content experience. These elements stayed out of the way of clear hierarchy and usability of the interface.
The combination of striking visual design and clear, usable interface lead to high conversion rates and blew past our email opt-in goal. We achieved everything we set out to do for our SOLO client.
